  1. Music videos were created in the 1970's for musical artists who didn't like, or were prevented from, touring. Over time, videos became more creative, as well as expensive to produce.

In 1981, MTV was launched, and it only had 100 videos. Because the channel ran 24 hours per day, the artists of these first 100 videos all became famous.

Hence, a demand was created that recording artists and producers were compelled to fill. As the number of videos grew, more people began to watch MTV, and demand increased again. The situation spiraled until MTV became a powerful source of popular culture.

The negative aspect of videos was that artists who weren't physically attractive or comfortable appearing on film became less popular, and their record companies canceled their contracts.
